MARCH 5, 2020, PICC, MANILA – The Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP) Graduate School of Public and Development Management (GSPDM) and the Philippine Academy of Family Physicians (PAFP) signed a Memorandum of Understanding for a customized ladderized master’s program for health care and health allied practitioners. The signing was headed by Dr. Policarpio Joves, PAFP’s President; Dr. Maria Victoria Concepcion Cruz, PAFP’s Vice President; and Dr. Lizan Perante-Calina, DAP GSPDM’s Senior Vice President and Dean. It was held prior to the opening of PAFP’s 59th Anniversary and Annual Convention, which was graced by Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go as the guest speaker.
The said partnership aims to provide effective and quality programs for the leaders of PAFP toward the successful implementation of the Universal Health Care (UHC) Law. As Dr. Calina mentioned, “It is with high hope that our conceptualized programs, as fruit of our partnership, will help future students become effective catalysts of health improvement and sound public managers in their field of expertise. Internalizing the public management and health system principles and application of the tools and approaches will hopefully turn our future students into agents of change who will make a difference and contribute toward equitable, sustainable and quality health for Filipinos.” She said that the customized program will enhance the skills in public management of the country’s health care practitioners and increase the pool of dedicated competent health workers who are key players in health sector development. She is hoping that the partnership between GSPDM and PAFP will open doors to other collaboration on health governance aimed at equipping leaders, developing their competencies and building a better nation.
